New Showers.

We are excited to show you the progress on the shower remodel project! A local group from Peru was kind enough to donate the funds in order to remodel the girls’ showers! These showers are more conducive for privacy and cleanliness… the girls love the new showers.

New Faces

We are thankful to currently have 7 long term volunteers. Kelly and Ashley have been here for more than 6 months, but the rest of the team arrived in July and August. Byson, from Colorado, Jo, from Australia, and Stephanie from California all arrived in July. And last but not least, Courtney and David, from Michigan, joined the team in late August. Courtney is serving as our Volunteer Coordinator. It is always exciting and a blessing to have a new team of volunteers. They bring fresh energy and passion to our programs and hearts ready to serve and love our children. We ask for prayer for each of them as they learn their new culture and language, pass time and holidays away from their loved ones, and strive to share all they can about the Lord with our children. Many of them have blogs you can follow. The links can be found on our links page.

Josue’s New Braces

Some of the volunteers that came to help this summer have been doing a lot to help since they returned to the US. They have a group that gets together once a month just to pray for us. This group asked what financial needs we have that they could specifically help with. When Alex shared the need for help with Josue’s dental/ortho treatment, a young couple within the group decided they wanted to cover the cost. What a true Blessing!!!!!! Josue now has braces!

Bible Month

In Peru, September is Bible Month. We enjoyed a month long celebration. During their vacation week the kids made skits and practiced songs. Their nightly devotions in the houses were focused on the importance of the Bible in each of our lives. The kids also worked as groups to memorize scripture. At the end of the month we had our complete Bible Month Celebrations. The kids were quizzed on the verses they memorized and performed songs. The Luces house sang a song with a beautiful and impacting chorus, “I could be a hungry child without a home, but your word will always sustain me.” The Tesoros house sang the B-I-B-L-I-A and
Jesus Loves Me, with an impressive chorus in English! The Chispas house performed a skit about Daniel in the Lion’s den, complete with roaring lions, and the Amigos came marching in as soldiers to perform a sketch of David and Goliath. No one missed out on the opportunity to celebrate God’s words. The volunteers shared a game show style presentation of the 10 Commandments and the office workers performed a sketch illustrating the importance of hiding God’s word in our hearts. It was a beautiful time stopping to remember the joy and privilege we have to learn from the word of God.

Week of Vacation

From September 12 to September 16, most of our kids had a week of vacation from school (after the exams they had taken the week before). This vacation time gave us a great opportunity to spend time with the kids doing activities that we don’t have time to do during the typical school week. The kids got to make jewelry for our “Semillas de Esperanza” program, watch movies, spend time reading, play board games in the library and games outside, enjoy music time and make some cool art projects in addition to working on projects for our celebration of “Bible Month.” In addition to these activities, we also had a bonfire on Wednesday night where we ate s’mores, sang songs, and tried to stay warm by the fire! A big THANK YOU is due to the group from Windsor Road Christian Church who donated some of our s’mores supplies! We all had a great time! Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for some of our worn-out volunteers), the next week came and the kids went back to school to start their new material!
