Vickie and I have been at the orphanage for practically the whole month of February. We are making a major revision on how we handle the money. It is equivalent to the change made when the modern world went from horse and buggy to the car. At the orphanage we are going to pay our employees and vendors in checks. This is huge. Ninety Nine percent of the business done in Peru is cash. Our employees can not believe that they can work for 15 days and receive just a piece of paper. It is a major adjustment to them. I going to stay on at the orphanage to reassure the workers that we are not doing a fast one on them. If we can pull this off it will help so much on our cash management.

Another big thing that happened is that we sent all the children that could go to summer camp. We are sending an attachment of the children loading into the Van. Remember the days that you went to summer camp and all the excitement of meeting new friends. The children are now having that same experience. The sleeping bags that the children use are called “esleeping” and they go to “campamento”. Monday we sent 17 children.

Starting in March we are changing the Madres Tutores (ladies who stay with the children 24 hours a day). Before we had the Madres work one week and then they were off a week. Now we are going with Madres that live at the orphanage and have 8 days off a month. We made this change so the children would have consistency of discipline. Also we have new madres that have college degrees and special skills that will be able to help each child in their homework.

One of our girls name Yessenia who is in the process of being adopted came to my wife and asked her how my daughter Lisa was doing in college. Yessenia asked does Lisa sleep at the college? Vickie said yes. Does she eat at the college? Vickie said Yes. Does she study at the college? Vickie said yes. Then Lisa lives at an orphanage. Right

Muchas gracias for the support and prayers for the work here.

Chau,

Dave
