Off to bigger and better things!

This month, we had the bittersweet experience of saying farewell to three of our girls, two of whom are moving to a transitional home, Hogar Luz de Vida, and one of whom has been adopted by a family from the United States! Yuliana and Yamelit will be learning and living in Trujillo in an environment more suited to older adolescents, with the goal of preparing them to transition out of an institutional environment and into private life. Brigitte left Hogar de Esperanza with her family this month, and they are currently in Lima getting everything ready to bring her home to the United States! Although we are sad to see them leaving, we are so very excited for the many new opportunities that they now have!

The end of summer is coming!

During the summer, the kids spent the days in various programs run by the volunteers. These programs included gardening, English, reading, Physical Education, Origami, Music, Service, Outdoor Games, and so many more! One of the events that the volunteers organized was “El Gran Concurso”—an obstacle course which the kids practiced for during their Physical Education class. The kids were timed individually, and everyone had a lot of fun cheering their friends on!

Birthdays

At the beginning of February, we took out all the January birthday kids. Abel, Italo, Edwin, and Cristina all went to a recreation center where there was food, a playground, and a pool. The kids all had a great time! We received a special donation to celebrate Jorge’s birthday, so he got to out for dinner and games with his brothers. It was so special for them to celebrate their birthdays in addition to the fun of being on vacation from school! At the end of the month, we celebrated Jhon and Alejandro’s birthdays (which actually fell in the month of January) with dinner out and fun at a local play area.
