While we shovel our driveways, brace the cold winds and endure winter, the children in Peru are enjoying bright summer days of sunshine. We have 10 volunteers, from the United States, Germany and England, working at the orphange. With all of their help, the children have the opprortunity to be a part of 12 different summer programs.

Days are spent in tutoring, learning computers and the internet, English classes, game time, guitar and piano lessons, language therapy, jewelry class, art, field trips, gardening, service projects and BIble Club. This is more than just a schedule of programs, but rather a way to minister to and develop the children that have come to know the orphanage as their home. Their involvement in these programs gives them the chance to grow, explore and learn more about the love of God. We thank all the volunteers and staff who give their time to improve the lives of these kids!

This past month, Joel and Robyn Hanson, were in their local newspaper. The article was about their year in Peru and their intent to adopt 5 siblings from the orphanage. You can read the article online by clicking here. Also, Robyn is working for the orphanage from the U.S., now, and she is speaking to different churches and social groups about the orphanage and our need for support. I was able to see her presentation in Topeka, KS last week. If you are interested in having her come to your church, please email me and let me know. It’s great to spread the word of what is happening in Peru.

The sand surrounding the orphanage has made some things difficult. Our small washing machines can’t withstand the constant sand that sneaks in the tubes and filters. We would like to be able to buy an industrial washing machine to help lighten the ‘load’ of the house mothers, who wash for 48 children daily. The sand has also caused problems with some of our water system at the orphanage and up in Alto Salaverry. We have a volunteer, who majored in engineering, and he is helping us solve some of the problems.

Last year we were blessed with many people giving to the work of the orphanage. Your generous gifts help continue the work being done in Trujillo, Peru. We have sent out donation receipts the last week of January. If you have not received a donation record, please contact us by email. And, if you need warming up during these cold winter days, think about the smiles on the faces of the children in Peru who are enjoying summer. Pray for each one of them, that they will feel God’s love. God bless you!
