Windsor Road Christian Church

Tim Brooks, board member of Corazon de Esperanza, and Pastor Brian Rummery led a trip from Windsor Road Christian Church to work and minister at our orphanage. They continued their amazing Vacation Bible School for our children, including field trips and an array of activities. However, this year, the members of Windsor Road Christian Church took on a few other projects. Members teamed with Veronica Luque, a Peruvian dentist, to provide check-ups and dental care for all of our children and staff members. They also worked day after day building a safe path for the children to walk between the orphanage and rancho building that houses the school most of our children attend. The group worked tirelessly each day to accomplish their tasks and were a blessing to our ministry! Thank you, Windsor Road Christian Church, for your commitment to partner with and serve Hogar de Esperanza.

Poverty in Peru

The average of poverty in rural Peru is at 59% of the population, with 13-14% national illiteracy. Police continue to abuse the rights of children living in the streets. Countless numbers of young girls are sex trafficked on a regular basis, children in the rural areas live in destitute poverty without opportunities for change, and kids living in the streets face discrimination, drug abuse, and exploitation as they struggle to survive. These are just some of the realities of life faced by the poor living in Peru.

Rural Poverty Portal tries to answer the question in regards to why rural Peruvians are poor. They state that rural poverty has its roots in:

  • “high rates of illiteracy, particularly among women
  • lack of essential services such as education and electrical power
  • lack of secure property rights to land, forests and water
  • ineffective animal and plant health services
  • poor transport infrastructure and marketing systems
  • lack of well-defined territorial organization and planning”

The children and families we reach each and every day come from situations just like the ones mentioned here. Pray for our children as we fight against poverty by providing basic needs, education and God’s love. Life in the surrounding areas of Hogar de Esperanza is difficult and our ministry continues to pray for guidance as we reach children who face these hardships.

Cross-Country Giving

Evangel University‘s Cross-Country Team spent a week with us in August learning about serving in a very different culture. While continuing their cross-country training, they also trained our children through Bible lessons, crafts and recreational activities. In just a few days, the groups was able to build a playground for the school that our children attend with materials purchased by the team. This extraordinary group of young men and women also provided a night out for our adolescents and a movie night for our younger kids. Thank you for being a part of Hogar de Esperanza and sharing your gifts with our ministry!

Que Dios les bendiga,
