Thank you, Fairview Baptist Church.

We are completing a month of intense activity and are excited as we prepare for the arrival of the next group of volunteers in late July.
Hogar De Esperanza was blessed by a visit from a group from Fairview Baptist Church in Louisiana. It’s been a great blessing ~the support that they brought, activities they performed, and the hard work involving lots of paint. Our hostel boasts a renewed intense coat of blue paint! They also bought a hot water heater, a refrigerator, four DVDs, new fire extinguishers, and four new tires for the truck. Not to mention the recreational games and many other accessories. The children, volunteers, and staff had a great time.

Thank You

Alex has been pretty busy taking care of everything and was able to reach out to a few people we would like to extend a special thank you… friends and brothers of CBT, Jesse Lowe,(who dared to take the leader of the group to buy TACORA-ALBARRACIN, a great experience for them.) Bruce Azlin, Erin Yarbrough, Nikki Bryant, Aaron Murray, Melissa Murray, Troy Murray, & Lee Sullivan. All from To Every Nation.

Congratulations Oscar & Samantha!

Another important event was the wedding of Samantha and Oscar. Samantha Smith served as a volunteer for 18 months & was loved and appreciated immensely by not only the children but also the staff and other volunteers. We used the wedding as a positive behavior reward for the older children at the orphanage. We were able to take a group of kids and everyone had a wonderful time.

Teenagers!

As we continue to strive to be the best we can be for these children, we are faced with something new. As our children get older we face new problems/challenges (typical of their age) that we have yet to face. The teenagers are, well, teenagers! As we come to you for spiritual support, we ask you pray for these individuals.

An update from one of our current volunteers

Having down time. It doesn’t happen a lot. I’m sitting in the library watching the teenagers do homework. The internet is down today so they’re upset about that. Not that they use the internet a lot for homework, although they’ll tell you different, mostly they use the internet for Facebook just like their North American counterparts.

This week there’s a group down here from Louisiana. It’s refreshing to have a mission trip group here. They see things with new eyes. They are inspired and ready to change the world. Plus, anytime there’s a large group of gringos in Peru it’s sure to make for some funny moments. I love it. Kelly, another year-long volunteer, and I were able to get the contact information of the leader of the group before they came down. We asked if we could have our mother’s send him some treats to bring down to us. What a blessing it is to receive Mom’s cookies after six months of missing her. What a blessing it is to receive English movies after watching them in Spanish.
What a blessing it is to receive new books after trading ours back and forth. Groups come with the children in mind, I’m sure, but what a blessing they are to the volunteers who haven’t seen their loved ones in months. It cheers the heart.
