My time in Peru was great. I worked with Alex, our Projects Director, on repairing the fountain/pool that sits on the orphanage property. It hadn’t been working for a few months and summer was ending without the children being able to swim and enjoy the water. It took some time to rework the tubing and get the water pressure going. However, it was well worth the wait, as the children enjoy seeing the water shoot up from the fountain and were excited to cool off in the fountain. Things tend to break and it’s a full time job to repair and keep things running. We also had our first harvest of fruit from all of our fruit trees that were planted several years ago by volunteers and groups from Kansas City and Boston.

After I left, a group of men and women from To Every Nation came to volunteer for a week. They helped repair broken screens, all of the children’s bikes and led bible studies, dramas and crafts for the children. A week in Peru can do so much to uplift the ministry of Hogar de Esperanza and to help in the work that is being done. I am grateful for To Every Nation and their desire to partner with us.

I am also proud to announce that we now have an “Association” or Board of Directors in Peru. We met together for the first time and it is a blessing to have men and women of God working together to help with the happenings of this ministry. We discussed the vision, the desire to continue reaching the street children of Peru and help the poor in the surrounding communities. Please keep Gerardo Catro Linan, Bill Bradford, Carlos Vasquez Blas, Alex Cenepo, Elizabeth Bernuy and myself in your prayers as we continue to lead and guide this ministry.
