Easter

The big event last month at the orphanage was Easter weekend. We had a great time having an enormous egg hunt with all the kids and volunteers that came to help. A couple of local missionary families came with eggs, candy, and cupcakes. The kids took turns looking for the eggs. First was the group of kids ages one to eight, then it was the turn of the big kids. After running around searching every bush, nook, and cranny we all enjoyed the cupcakes.

Sad Farewell

Along with the good times also come the hard times. This past month we faced one of those. Early April we sent one of one of our children, Luis, to a different orphanage in Cajamarca. Luis was disabled and was bound to a wheelchair. The orphanage in Cajamarca was set up specifically to help these types of children so we figured that there he would be able to get the attention he deserved. However, it was with great sadness that we learned that Luis passed away. He had gotten sick and suffered a heart attack. Although it saddens us, we know that he is now in heaven. He will always be remembered by all the volunteers, staff, and kids here at Hogar de Esperanza.
